I’ve learnt that anything is possible when you put your heart into it. Don’t listen to what other people tell you what you can and can’t do. When you have confident people like Russell & Tara around you that know what they are doing, then you’re on the right path.”

This camel experience in Mongolia will set you apart, change your perspective and turn you into an experienced cameleer (camel handler)!

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!

“I already had some experience with my own camels however, this Trust Based Camel Training gave me a complete insight into the psychology of these amazing creatures. We were walked through the steps of taming and training an un-handled camel in just a few days. I now have more confidence in handling my own camels. I can encourage anyone who wants to learn more about camels to take part in this training as it will change your life and build a camel connection that will last a lifetime.”

Who Are We and Why Trust Us?

When the idea of journeying to Mongolia to train camels and their handlers was presented to us we expressed the importance of respecting and understanding the cultural heritage of camels in Mongolia. There is a reason that things are done the way they are done and we deeply respect that.

We’re not out to convert old traditions to newer ways of being around or thinking about camels. We are westerners entering into a whole new culture which we can only grasp in the slightest way.

We’re holding this Camel Training Camp for an incredibly unique opportunity for people like you who want to join us in training bactrian camels in the Camel Connection Trust Based Camel Training method.

We will be working together as a team, with you and the other camel enthusiasts, to help creature not only a working relationship with the camels, but also a strong bond of trust and mutual respect. This will all play a significant role in the success of the camel’s new ownership upon our departure.

We’ve teamed up with experienced expeditioner herself, Tamar Valkenier, who spent 4 months trekking (with one camel, horse & dog) through the Mongolian Altai mountains, amongst many more of her experiences.

What qualifies us to teach…?

Along our camel journey we’ve learnt many things, often the hard way, which makes us determined to share all the camel information that we know with you through training camps such as this unique trip to Mongolia.

We specialize in helping new camel enthusiasts get comfortable with their new found wooly friend, learn how to handle, train, bond with and care for their camel(s).

We’ve worked with camel handlers in Thailand, Mongolia, India, USA and Australia teaching our camel training & handling method.

We’ve also had an array of experience working in and managing…

Riding Operations
Camel Trekking
Camel Expeditions
Running Camel Training Clinics Australia Wide & Internationally
Camel Management & Farming
Camel Expeditioners
Tourism Operations
Camel Consultants
Mentor’s for other Camel Business Owners

Cameleers Camel Trainer Tara Lea & Russell Osborne

What is Camel Connection Trust Based Camel Training®?

• Totally non violent (trust and respect are the key foundations)
• Two way relationship between camel handler and the camel.
• Encourages the highest level of two way respect.
• Develops understanding of a camel’s psychology
• A loving and trusting bond between handler and camel.
• A gentle camel training and handling method compared to more traditional styles of training.

You’ll have the best camel experience of your life in Mongolia’s vast, wild and naturally varied country that feels like a whole other world.

Our Camel Training Camp will be in the raw, remote and breathtakingly beautiful Altai Mountains of Mongolia.

FQA Mongolian Camel Journey….

What will the Weather conditions be like?

At the time of our travel to Mongolia it will be Autumn. The temperature can range between +5°+15° during a day and -5°-0°Celsius during a night. It’s likely to snow within the timeframe that we are in the Altai, it’s a great adventure! When you apply for this trip we give you a packing list on the types of clothing that is best suited for these conditions.

Water Quality and Drinking…

We recommend you only drink filtered or brought water while on this trip. We will have brought water for you to refill personal water bottles or your hydration pack.

What’s the toileting procedure at Camel Camp?

We supply all toilet paper and necessary equipment for this daily procedure. We have a procedure in place where we ‘leave no trace’. The ol’ dig a hole (with a supplied shovel) for number twos works best. All toilet paper is burned within that hole and hole then covered up.

What if there is a medical emergency?

All camel journey people MUST have their own personal Travel Insurance. We carry First Aid kit with us at all times while working with the camel and have certified First Aiders. For more complicated medical needs we have a procedure in place, which includes contacts to assists with medical emergencies (like Mongolian Ambulance).

What type of food will be served?

Mongolian food is mainly, high protein, meat, dairy and gain based diet. Mongolian food consist of a lotof mutton as a meat source. The group will have our own cook for the 8 days. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served hot. If you have special dietary requirements please let us know ASAP so we can inform our caterers.

Where can I get supplies?

Supplies can be obtained in the city of Ulaanbaatar upon arrival. There you’ll find a range of ‘westerner’ type foods and snacks alongside other normal supplies that might be needed. Once we get to the Altai supplies are limited, we recommend you come 100% prepared before hand departing to the Altai.

How far do we walk each day on camel trek?

Be prepared to walk 25 kilometres per day. For your own comfort level make sure you have prepared yourself for such walking distance – while wearing your walking boots. We will have a backup vehicle available to take passengers if needed, but you will get the most out of this trip if you can maintain walking pace.

Where do I store additional person items while we are on trek?

You can carry the most important items with you (like passport etc.) in your daypack, other items can be stored in transport vehicles.

Will there be Mobile/Cell Phone reception?

There is cell/mobile reception in the city, but once we reach the Altai – there is no cell reception. Make sure you activate ‘roaming’ with your cell/mobile provider before departure. We have an emergency and safety protocol in place if we need to make contact or need to be contacted.

Can you contact my family in case of an emergency?

Before this Mongolian Camel Tip commences we require all participants to fill out a medical form with your chosen Next of Kin stated on this form in case we need to contact your family in an emergency. We also require all participants to complete a RISK FORM stating the nature of this camel training and expedition and its potential dangers. These forms will be emailed to you once you’ve secured your place. We also have a protocol for family members to contact us in case of emergency (info given out upon booking).

What fitness level is required?

For your own health, wellbeing, saffety and to get the most out of this trip a good fitness and stamina level is required for you to participate in this Mongolian Camel Journey. The days will working with the camels, sun up until sun down and preparation is key for the 70km camel trek to the eagle festival. It’ll be challenging, tiring, rewarding and fun! What an unforgettable adventure!
